Northeast Ohio Golf welcomes Proximity Golf Lounge of Cleveland Heights as a new Fall/Winter sponsor!

This swanky-cool golf bar is located in a breath-taking former bank lobby in a turn-of-the-century building at 3099 Mayfield Road.

The fireplace at Proximity Golf Lounge

Ascend the grand staircase at the entrance into a gorgeous wood and stone space with high-arched ceilings and cedar beams. Crystal chandeliers light the room. The old bank vault door sits slightly open near the corner bar. A wood-burning fireplace anchors the center of a room filled with overstuffed couches and leather chairs. Definitely a touch of “country club” feel here.

stone arches and simulators: Proximity Golf Lounge

In between those giant arches are the reason why the golf-addicted visit: five top-of-the-line Full Swing Golf Simulators, including two with supersized screens. (Yes, that’s the high-dollar simulator brand of the PGA Tour, touted by Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Gary Woodland, Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, et al.)

a big screen at Proximity Golf

Rest assured, these aren’t those old-school first-generation simulators, cartoonish and slow. These are high-tech, high-definition, real-time action machines. The instant the ball hits the screen, it continues its flight path within the simulation. All matter of ball and club data are conveyed in real time on the right side of the screen, measured jointly by overhead high-speed cameras at the point of impact and by infrared trackers as the ball flies by. There is no other simulation technology or indoor launch monitor that can measure these ball flight characteristics more accurately or rapidly!

Harbour Town simulated

Choose from more than 80 of the worlds most-recognizable golf courses to play: Oakmont, Pebble Beach, Harbour Town, Firestone, Bandon Dunes, Bethpage Black, Pinehurst #2, Kiawah Ocean Course, and many, many more. The screen shows an incredibly realistic digital rendering of each hole as the round progresses. It’s a chance to play a Top-100 course without spending money on airfare. (Get a better look: click the thumbnails above for full-sized images.)

You can come in and practice in driving range mode, too, which is a great way to focus on your swing metrics. Check your clubhead and ball speed with total accuracy. See your spin rates. Review your smash factor. All while using the brand of golf ball you actually play instead of a range ball. Heck, maybe even figure out the true carry-distance for every club in your bag — that alone would be worth booking an hour!

the bar at Proximity Golf Lounge

Play all of this golf while having a cocktail or craft beer and appetizers from the bar at Proximity Golf Lounge! (But here’s where that whole “country club” thing goes out the window: all the food and drink prices at Proximity are actually reasonable.)
